How To Handle A Midnight Situation:
Winds and Waves Obey Jesus
I WOULD LIKE TO USE FOR A SUBJECT HOW TO HANDLE A MIDNIGHT SITUATION!
Introduction:
Over these last 58 years of this life's journey I have learned to lean and depend on Jesus and trust in God the father who has guided my footsteps unto this very day. As I stand before you today I would like to impart something you that I have gathered over time during these last few years of living for the Lord as a matter of fact over the last 34 years there has been some storms that I have had to face some have been secret storms (some I did not seen coming) and there has been some visible storms (some I seen coming but just could not avoid) I just had to weather those storms and see what the end would be! Now whether it has been visible or secret I can say only God has brought me through it all and now I can truly say that I count all joy! I wouldn't take any other life but the one I now live. Living the God kind of life will leave you with more positives than negatives! During this life's journey I have encountered a few situations that seemed like they would never end (But God!)Stepped in and made it alright!
The first 34 verses simply talks about is Jesus teaching his disciples in parables, parables such as the Parable of the Sower, purpose of the parables, parable of the sower explained, the light under the basket, parable of the growing seed, and finally the parable of the mustard seed.
So that brings us to another story that was not taught in a parable. Now here comes the story of the trial where the winds and the waves obey Jesus.
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, (the rear part of a ship or boat) asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
In the fourth chapter of Mark Jesus tells Mark, ok Mark I'm going to use most of the chapter as a teaching moment so take notes so he began teaching his disciples what they would encounter in the form of parables as he began teaching them away from the multitudes of people he decided to launch out into the deep and go over to the other side of the sea, while they were on their way something begin to happen with the weather, as soon as the weather began to get a little rough suddenly he was fast asleep in the hinder part of the ship that is in the back, in the dark, and in the corner of the boat. Jesus probably said to himself I might as well catch me a nap while we go to the other side of the sea. No sooner than he had fallen asleep the ship began to lose control because of the weather, everybody mainly the disciples were shaking in their boots, more than likely they were in sandals, however they begin to shake and quiver because they just didn’t know what to do! The disciples should not have been fearful because Jesus was with them.
FOUR POINTS TO CONSIDER:
First, Jesus had told them that they were going to the other side; He indicated that they would arrive there (v.35). He will also tell you that he is going with you.
Second, He was with them; they would not die because He would not die before His time. He will go with you and he promised that he will never leave you nor forsake you. Psalm 37:25
Third, Jesus was sleeping peacefully and was not afraid of the storm. If Jesus is at peace he wants you to be at peace.
Fourth, He had demonstrated compassion for them and the multitudes many times. Jesus had compassion for all mankind he wants us to have compassion for all people that we come in contact with.
Now Jesus had just finished teaching them in parables about the facts of life, how to deal with this and how to deal with that meaning that he taught everything he could think of, one thing He did not teach them about was the storms of life, why because they were in the middle of a storm, this is one that they had to learn by trial and error!
NOTE: Trial…as it happened so they had to learn this lesson even as danger was upon them and…
NOTE: Error how to handle a midnight situation the next time because it will surely come. One thing about the STORMS OF LIFE THAT YOU WILL NOT LEARN WHILE IT'S GOING ON BECAUSE THINGS ARE TOO SHAKY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM, SOMEONE THIS MORNING MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS MIDNIGHT SITUATION YOU JUST HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE STORM IS OVER WHEN PEACE COMES TO YOUR MIND AND THEN YOUR THINKING BEGINS TO COME TOGETHER THAT'S WHEN YOU LEARN HOW TO PRAY AND PRAY EFFECTIVELY!
Three things to take home today; (1) WHEN YOU COME OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE OF LIFE MEANING BEING WITH GOD YOU WILL ENCOUNTER HARD TIMES, (2) GOD WILL GIVE YOU POWER TO SPEAK TO YOUR SITUATION, AND (3) YOU WILL HAVE NO FEAR BECAUSE HE, "GOD IS WITH YOU"!
CONCLUSION: DOUGLAS MILLER SANG A SONG THAT GOES LIKE THIS;
Though the storms keep on raging in my life; And sometimes it’s hard to tell the night from day; Still that hope that lies within is reassured As I keep my eyes upon the distant shore; I know He'll lead me safely to that blessed place He has prepared. But if the storms don't cease, And if the winds keep on blowing in my life, My soul has been anchored in the Lord. Ohhhhhh, I realize that sometimes in this life were gonna be tossed, by the waves and the currents that seem so fierce, but in the word of God I've got an anchor and it keeps me steadfast and unmovable despite the tide, But if the storms don't cease, and if the winds keep on blowing in my life, my soul has been anchored in the Lord. The Billows may roll; Breakers may dash; I shall not sway because He holds me back; So dark the days, that lies in the sky; But I know it’s all right ‘cause Jesus is mine; My soul has been anchored in the, in the Lord.
